Thee Olde Guarde

OOC:

Welcome to the Internet home of Thee Olde Guarde
A Roleplaying Guild on the Thorium Brotherhood (US) - Realm server
in the World of Warcraft Online MMORPG

The purpose of this page is to provide some basic information about our guild: Thee Olde Guarde and what we are all about. Our Guild is for older gamers, who seek to participate in WoW (World of Warcraft) casually, for fun and relaxation. We limit membership to those over the age of 25. The Guarde was founded by GideonHawke.

From GideonHawke
(Chancellor of Thee Olde Guarde):
(feel free to check out his IC (in-character) blog Gideon's Sanctuary )

My vision of Thee Olde Guarde is a simple one. You've heard it all before, a guild that does not care about playtime, levels, end-game content, etc. A guild that is all about friendship and having a good time. Many guilds say this, but few stick with it for the long haul.

In Thee Olde Guarde's case, this is a matter of principle for me. I play this game to have fun, to enjoy the company of others and to relax. I do not want to deal with stress in this game (I have plenty of stress in my RL (Real Life) thanks). I personally could care less if I ever reach level 60. My goal is level 40, only for the mount, and more importantly, so that I can specialize my Blacksmithing into Armorsmithing and really be able to help out the membership as they advance. After that, I am not all that concerned about advancement, when it comes or even if it comes. That is simply not why I play the game. I play to have fun.

So , if you are looking for a guild that works tirelessly to get everyone to 60 to dominate the "end-game" and make sure everyone has their epic toilet paper and what-not, then this is NOT the guild for you. We are a guild about fun, friendship, and laughter.

We as a guild continue to work on developing RP (Roleplaying), both in game and otherwise. Some of our members are new to this form of entertainment, others are old hands at it. In either case we are all learning how to make it work "in-game". When it comes to game play, were are still working out how we want to handle RP. We all want to participate in it, but when and where is a subject for discussion. For example, when a group is running an instance, it tends to be more efficient to communicate OOC about strategy and the like. Currently, we ask all members to be IC when speaking publicly (/say and the like), we treat Guild chat as OOC, we are discussing how we would like to approach RP events, and we leave how communication is handled when in PvP and PvE groups to the people involved in the individual event(s) at that time. All in all, by WoW forum standards, I imagine we would fall somewhere between a lite-RP and a medium-RP Guild.

We have worked hard to establish several resources for our members:
  • We have a Forum online
  • We are on RPGOutfitter.com
  • We have a TeamSpeak server online
  • We have this Page to promote membership
  • And we have a membership willing work for our success
We are working towards developing more resources for our members on our forums and otherwise. We have an area devoted to RP there, where members can post IC Journals, setup forum-ased Roleplay topics, or just come participate in the RP free-for-all that is Thee Olde Goblet (a topic based on an Inn, set in WoW for our members to have some fun IC). More and more is developed everyday as I find new things to make available to our members. If you would like, you are welcome to visit our forums at:

However, please understand that this is a forum for our guild members. As a result, very little content is available for viewing by guests.

If you would like to become a member of Thee Olde Guarde, please review Thee Olde Rules. If these are acceptable to you then feel free to contact GideonHawke in-game (Thorium Brotherhood - US - Realm server). You will need to post a request to join on our forums. To do so, first please review what is needed in your request by reading this post, as there is some requirements and required information for a request to be accepted. Then feel free to post a new topic in the Membership Application section of our forum (Note: Guests can post an application, and an application is required before we can complete your registration on the forum), with the title of that topic being the name of your main character on Thorium Brotherhood (or if different, the name of the primary character you will use within our guild). We require Email verification, as well as Administrator approval before registration is accepted (please, if you are concerned about privacy and the like, simply make an email name at any of the countless free web-based email services, and use that to register on the forums and for guild communication). If approved, we will try to meet up with you in-game and get you invited into the guild ASAP. Alternately, if you would like to discuss establishing some level of friendly relations between your guild and ours, please feel free to post a message about this in our Diplomatic Relations area of the forums.

Once you are a member we encourage you to post an introduction on the forums HERE. Tell us what you want out of the game, what trade skills are you working on, what materials you need to develop them, etc. Tell us about your character and feel free to add whatever other OOC info you would like to share (married, parent, pets, your mailing address in prison, etc). Finally, please do shift over to IC and tell us a bit about your character from his / her perspective, who they are and what they want out of the life.

Once your Introduction is completed you are welcome to jump over to the IC section of the forum, Mazes and Murlocs, and start a get into as great of detail about your character as you like. You might want to develop an IC Journal or an on-going storyline. Either a private one, or one where you invite others to join in the fun. And don't forget to pop into "Thee Olde Goblin" tavern for a bit of RP fun with others on the forums. It's a bit like a WoW version of Cheers.

Once you have checked out out forums and gotten the feel of the place we ask that you get yourself setup for our TeamSpeak server (information on this is available to forum members). Also please sign up a free account over at RPG Outfitters (if you are not on there already), download their Character Profiler Add-on and get your information uploaded as this resource allows our members to work with each other much more efficiently.

In closing, we are a small but growing guild where the focus is community and fun. If your membership disrupts either, and you are not willing to work with us to end the disruption, I will not hesitate to show you the door. I am more concerned about the quality of our membership then the quantity of members and your level, tradeskills, gold donations, or whatever else will not save you. What we all get out of this guild is highly dependent on what we all put into it. So be active, be friendly, and have a ton of fun.

Welcome to Thee Olde Guarde!!
For those who did not make a run for it after reading this:
You are likely our kind of people and this will be your kind of Guild!
